MP backs biodiesel tax break project

MP Andrew George is backing a project to keep tax breaks for business who produce biodiesel.

Producers converting cooking oil into biodiesel currently take advantage of a 20p differential but that is due to end next April.

The St Ives MP, who leads the Lib Dem Environment Team, has been fulfilling with the UK sustainable biodiesel alliance.

Mr George said "a number of small companies in Cornwall currently generate income from utilized cooking oil".

He included: "In order to have the ability to get this kind of market going it does need just a bit of lift which can be found in the type of tax inevitable."

Biodiesel is a blend of traditional diesel, rapeseed and vegetable oils.
